Spiderman 3 is almost a sure lock to take over the weekend box office record, after an estimated $59 million haul on Friday alone…..
I’m guessing it will be in the $140-$145 range, but you never know….I just think buzz will kill this movie next week. It really is the weakest of the trilogy up to this point, and I’m not sure what Raimi was thinking with having so much of the musical stuff in the picture. And, surprisingly, a lot of people feel the same way.
This will probably break the weekend record, but I can’t really decide if I think it deserves it or not….Hopefully it improves upon second viewing (which may not be for awhile), but I seriously doubt it.
I never thought I’d say this, but I really wish that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest would have held onto this record a little longer. I’m definitely rooting for a strong showing from Pirates later this month…..I hope it does well.
Who would have thought movie grosses would get up to $150 million….this is crazy, and I’m glad to be a part of history!

I’ve noticed a lot of searching for box-office predictions for Spiderman 3, which is out in, hard to believe, just under 3 weeks.
Over at HSX, they’ve got a price on it that indicates people are thinking it will be in the $117 million range….
Me, personally, I think that it should open to easily $125 million….It may be the closest we ever see a film make it to breaking the Pirates 2 record of $135 million…..
Who knows…considering I think Spiderman 2 would hold the record if it had opened on a Friday, I’d say anything is possible at this point. Just expect Pirates 3 to be right behind at the end of May……
It’s gonna be a good summer!
Ok, serioiusly…The folks at Sony need to stop pushing out trailers for Spiderman 3. By the time people make it to theatres, they will have seen a good portion of the movie, combining clips and trailers together….
Honestly, this goes back to another post I had, I think they should be concerned that they reveal so much footage. I’ve vowed not to watch this latest one, simply because I’ve seen so much already, I want to go in and see some stuff I wasn’t expecting.
Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg have made it clear that they won’t be releasing any huge Transformers footage (i.e. transformations, closeups, epic shots), and I applaud them for it. Over the years, trailers have become more and more spoilery, and it’s getting to the point that sometimes trailers are better than the movies.
For the sake of Spiderman 3, I hope they haven’t entirely given away all their footage, but I do have my concerns. Perhaps I’ll be proven wrong come May 4th, but I still say it would have been totally awesome if they had kept Venom a secret…..
I’ll provide a link to the story, but I refuse to post a link to the third trailer…..For your sake, hold off as long as you can!

I’d like to say that I’m glad to see the return of Superman last summer in Superman Returns has had a lasting effect.
Seems like I can walk into a Wal-Mart once a month and still manage to find a new item with some form of the Superman logo engraved on it.
Just in the past week, I’ve managed to see Supes-themed Easter egg baskets, easter eggs, and the usual beach towels and bed sheets…etc.
They’re also gearing up for Spiderman 3…the little easter eggs that look like Spiderman’s head gave me a laugh.
I don’t ever remember seeing this much movie-themed movie merchandise in stores before….Have you?
I think I was probably the first person to bring up the notion that the 2007 box-office would be a record-breaker……USA Today has pointed out for the millionth time what I’ve know for the past two years.
I think 300 was probably the biggest surprise thus far…I still say it wasn’t the greatest movie I’ve seen, but it gave a huge boost to the box-office…..Trust me, it’s only getting started.
The month of May alone has Spiderman 3, Shrek 3, and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End……July has Transformers and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix…
All in all….I’m looking forward to a busy and exciting summer at the movie theatre.

There’s one final Spiderman 3 trailer up now, courtesy of Comcast. I’ve become slightly concerned about this movie, simply based on the fact that they’ve released so much footage! I’m worried I may have seen the best of what they’ve got so far.
The latest trailer is again Venom-centric, with glimpses at new footage. I’m still excited, because I think I remember the same things happening before Spiderman 2, and it’s now one of my favorites of all-time.
I think it will be interesting to see where they go with the series once this one comes out.
I’m glad Transformers has been pretty good about keeping their “epic shots” unrevealed so we’ll be surprised when the movie is in theatres.
Even still, May 4th can’t come soon enough!
Anyone else catch the new Venom-centric Spiderman 3 trailer with 300 over the weekend?
I thought it was another great trailer, but it definitely makes me wonder how much new footage is left for the actual movie. It seems to me they are revealing a lot of plot points that would be better off kept secret. I still like to imagine what it would be like if it wasn’t known that Venom was going to be in it. That would’ve been huge! (and probably nearly impossible to do).
The one film I think that is doing a good job of this, mainly because of the director, is Transformers. So far, 2 trailers, no big reveals on Autobots or Decepticons (we still haven’t seen Optimus Prime in motion from the front), and a heck of a lot of buzz.
Transformers is easily becoming one of my most hyped films for this summer…..Of course, there’s still Harry Potter in there too. We should get trailers for both of these films in the coming weeks, if I had to guess.
