Seems Potter mania is kicking off with the media blitz today (well, technically last night), setting the stage for the upcoming teaser trailer.
Here’s a new photo from the cover of Empire magazine.
I’m totally getting psyched for the next Potter movie…Hard to believe Order of the Phoenix was already like a year ago.
Following hot on the heels of Mario Kart Wii is another potentially huge franchise for the Big-N…..It’s Wii Fit, and it arrives on May 19th, 2008.
There are plenty of reasons Wii Fit is going to be so great, and I’ll go through some of the reasons why I, personally, am so excited for this latest title.
1) I want to exercise with Wii Fit.
I’ve never been a regular at the local gym, nor do I have a set routine of exercise. In fact, I think that last official exercising I did was in a P.E. class during high school. I find myself looking forward to having a medium that will allow me to excercise, but also have fun while doing it. The fact that a channel is created that allows me to track my BMI and keep a running tally of how I’m doing is also intriguing.
I’m really looking forward to Wii Fit, so that I can start to get a routine going, and to have a means of keeping up with any results that I may see.
2) The latest peripheral, the Wii Balance Board
This latest peripheral from Nintendo not only makes Wii Fit unique, but it opens up a variety of other options for games that are released down the road. Snowboarding, skateboarding and skiing games are sure to come out left and right…the only problem may be sorting out the really good ones from the really bad ones….
3) The mini-games
I don’t know the total count for all the activities you can partake in during a Wii Fit session, but by the looks of it there will be plenty. In particular, I’m excited to try the game where you shift your weight to get the ball to drop through a hole on a floating island (much easier to see than to explain now that I’ve tried).
Sure to keep people entertained for weeks and weeks to come.
I don’t know anything about yoga…Never have done it before, never even considered it….But Wii Fit has me intrigued because it seems like it might actually help me get into better shape. I’m not sure I’d ever take a Yoga class in real life, but at least with Wii Fit I’ll be able to give it a shot.
5) The Price
The sub-$100 price point is a big factor because other countries that have already gotten their hands on the game are spending upwards of $120 on the set. Over here in the United States, we’ll pay $90, which is still higher than your typical game, but is on par with other similar releases on different consoles (think Guitar Hero type stuff.
‘Nuff said….This release is going to be huge for Nintendo, both because of gamers like me and the general audience that the Wii caters to. Either way, it seems like it will be enjoyable, fun and a valuable addition to any Wii collection.
Not much on the “must-have” list this week, although my purchase this week is inspired by the fact that Chris Nolan has made at least 2 of my favorite movies of all time.
Memento– I don’t think it’s really a spoiler, but for safety-sake I’ll avoid it in case anyone else has somehow gone this long without hearing about the twist ending to this movie. All I know is that since this came out, way back in 1999 I believe, Chris Nolan has made Batman Begins and The Prestige, easily two of my favorite films to watch….over and over again….and that makes me want to see how Memento compares. I have an ever-evolving taste in movies, thought since 1999 I think it’s safe to say mine has changed significantly.
Worth a Look: Nothing else, really.
A whole bunch of NBC news coming our way today, via a mini-upfront type presentation by the network.
One of the highlights for me revolves around this proposed spinoff of The Office that NBC has planned. I value Office news highly, because it’s been a show I’ve followed since it premiered and before everyone joined the bandwagon and made it what it is today.
This spinoff has me both incredibly excited and somewhat worried….On the one hand, it could be another great show for NBC, with good writing and hilarious situations…on the other hand, as Watch With Kristin points out (along with many others), it could be too much of a good thing. I’ll reserve judgment until I see who they get as a new “Michael Scott” type character (if they go that route with it).
One thing I think NBC should consider is to NOT make it another Dunder Mifflin Branch….A great idea would be to make it someone who does business with Dunder Mifflin, and spin it off that way. Then the regular Office staff can stay in tact. There is no way they can stand to lose some of their co-workers to another show because it just wouldn’t be the same.
Any thoughts? Feel free to post…..All in all, it’s an exciting day for fans of TV….and NBC!
Here’s a look at some good bargain bin deals this week:
Home Alone 2 ($4.99)- I’ve always enjoyed watching both this one and the first Home Alone during the holidays….they just get me into the Christmas spirit. While this one is not nearly as put-together as the first, it still manages to capture some of the charm from the first film. A great deal of the gags are recycled from the first, with little winks to the first film sprinkled throughout, and it still is hilarious (though still unbelievable at points) to watch Marv (Daniel Stern) get hit in the face with bricks repeatedly…..
The Da Vinci Code (– I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this one when it came out…It was the summer that started with the bomb that was Mission Impossible III….by the time I made it to The Da Vinci Code, I was aching for a summer hit….and wasn’t disappointed. While the book is far superior, you have to admit, this one is a pretty faithful adaptation. It’s also very cool to see how they translated some of the scenes from the book…..BARGAIN!
CIRCUIT CITY (Buy 1 at $9.99, get one free)
The Italian Job– I don’t ever remember seeing this in theatres, and actually didn’t consider it until a friend told me to watch it…sort of the same as everyone did with The Bourne Identity…..I wish I had seen it though, because it really is a solid mix of action and comedy…and you’re probably going to at least want to test drive a Mini Cooper after watching it….One of Mark Wahlberg’s best movies…and Charlize Theron shines also.
School of Rock– I’ve never actually seen this, but at buy one get one free, I figure this is a good one to take a shot at purchasing without watching. I’ve heard good and bad, but there is the moment they use in those apple commercials that seems to make me think I might actually enjoy this one……I hope.
There’s finally some updates on The Mummy 3 out tonight, and honestly, I’m excited for what I’m reading. I know there’s not many movie moguls out there that are dying to see a third Mummy movie, but I liked the first two a great deal. I know Rob Cohen, who directed The Fast and the Furious, is not an ideal director for some, but I really enjoy those movies as well, and I’m eager to see what he can do with a much bigger, blockbuster kind of picture. Here’s what he has to say…
“I have shown the film to the exec’s at Universal and they are through-the-roof ecstatic. We screened a few weeks ago for all the relevant department heads (home video, distribution, foreign, p.r., marketing, etc.) and the reaction was unanimous. It’s running around 1 hr. 53 minutes and, daily as we hone, it’s taking its final shape. The studio has been very collaborative and supportive. You know they love it when they ask you if you need any more money to enhance the visual effects budget!!! Are there more shots that I want to do but didn’t have the money to do?!!! Of course, the answer is yes; there is never enough to entertain the audience in any film. That kind of support from Chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde, President Donna Langley, and V.P.’s Jeff Kirschenbaum and Erik Baiers is rare in Hollywood so I am very pleased all the way around.”
Also, he’s apparently said in his blog that a teaser will appear soon…All I can say is….IT’S ABOUT TIME! I read a possible description of what to expect, and if it’s right, it sounds like it won’t disappoint….
