Fueling my disappointment with Indy 4 was the lack of any big trailer debuts….Indy isn’t tracking as high as I thought it would box-office wise, but it is a very big debut and millions are heading to theaters over the holiday weekend, so any studio wanting people to know about their movie would be dumb not to take advantage.
Instead, I was stuck watching a trailer for something called Benjamin Button (something to that effect, anyway) that looked really weird, a trailer for a heavy-drama Australia, and a bunch of really old trailers I’ve been watching for months.
Where’s the Potter trailer, The Mummy 3 trailer, Star Trek, or something else that would have been unexpected….Quantum of Solace, anyone?
Hopefully in the coming weeks, trailers will start to improve as even more summer blockbusters are released. I hear the Potter teaser will be in Get Smart, which doesn’t quite make sense, but I’ll still be seeing it anyway because Carell looks hilarious in the role.
Look for updates later this week…I’ll be out of town, but will still be on the prowl for movie news.
You know, the one thing I hate about getting all my movie news from blogs is that all the big ones, which is most of them, manage to get press passes to the premieres that happen before it’s officially released.
Then, all the reviews, or even teases of the reviews get posted online….most of the time revealing spoilers, either inadvertenaly or not.
In particular, Movies.com posted a snippet about a news item I’d already read regarding an Indiana Jones 5, but then they casually mention how something might be a spoiler WHEN IT’S NOT a spoiler until they say that.
Here’s a tip…put a spoiler warning BEFORE you’re about to say something about a movie you’ve seen that hasn’t released to the public yet. It’s just stupid not to.
I’m really embracing my role as a spoiler shield for everyone seeing this movie…aren’t I?
Reviews are trickling through for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and for the most part seem to skew to the negative side.
What good could come from this news, you say? Well, after skimming them to avoid spoilers, I’ve noticed that all the people who went to see this one wanted it to be the next “Raiders”….like it’s the holy grail (no pun intended) of all the Indy films….
The pecking order they have say that Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the worst, when I easily rank that one as my favorite, with Raiders a close second, and Temple of Doom a very close third. By that account, I think I may enjoy this more, because if they hate “Last Crusade”, then they clearly have a different Indy movie taste.
Number 2….they say in at least one review that this could be the “Die Hard 4” of the franchise…Well, considering Die Hard 4 was my favorite of the Die Hards…despite it being taken to a PG-13 rating, which was still not the best idea….I think that I could be in for a treat. I had A LOT of fun at Die Hard 4, and now I’m itching to see Indy 4 and see if this trend continues.
So I say bring on even more negative, whiny reviews…..They just make me realize how much I’ll actually enjoy this one…..
Normally I don’t watch or post these things anymore, just to avoid spoilery stuff.
This new TV spot for quite possibly one of my most anticipated movies ever, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is just too awesome to pass up.
Take a look about halfway through when Harrison Ford is looking off toward somone offscreen….Looks pretty badass if you ask me!
Never thought the day would arrive, but production is finally set to being on Indiana Jones 4….
Honestly, the moment I see this trailer, I think I might actually cheer. It’s going to be so weird to see Harrison Ford back up on the big screen as Dr. Jones…
Plus, this’ll be the first time I actually get to see one of the movies in a theatre….hopefully they’ll have one of those all-day marathon events….I’d totally go.

I’m sticking this a rumor until anything remotely being close to confirmed about this film is released.
It’s been tossed around before, and again it’s mentioned that Johnathan Rhyes-Davies, who played Sallah (or may be better known as Gimli, from Lord of the Rings), is not in the next installment.
Personally, I think it’s disappointing. As mentioned in the linked article at Cinema Blend, I thought he was pretty funny in the other movies and a good overall character. I always enjoy the little part in Last Crusade when he tells Brody to run….
I’m sure the movie will still be enjoyable, I just figured they would at least want Sallah in it….

This time, it’s official. Shia LeBeouf (Transformers, Holes) is officially signed on for the latest go-round in the Indiana Jones saga.
Honestly, my opinion of the kid still hasn’t changed. I’ve never enjoyed the way he carries himself in an interview. It always seems like it’s an expletive filled outing with Shia, except, of course, in USA Today.
Still…the kid is pretty good in most of his movies, and he is funny at times (his role in I, Robot was pretty funny). I’ll give him that.
We’ll see how he does in Transformers this summer, and then a year later he’ll have another one under his belt after Indy 4 comes out. Plot points are still shrouded in secrecy, so who knows if he’s playing Indiana Jones’ kid in this one, or if he’s just a goofy sidekick.
If I were a betting man, I’d say he’s the former….not the latter.
