Wii Musings: Boom Blox Review

leave a comment »

I’ve long been a fan of Nintendo through the years, but in all the time that has passed since the N64 and even SNES glory days, my Nintendo Wii is just now beginning to experience some heavy play time.

Boom Blox, a collaboration between EA and Steven Spielberg, is by far one of the best investments I’ve made into a game for any console in the past 10 years.

Wii Musings: EA’s Boom Blox

leave a comment »

After sifting through all the typical Nintendo-fanyboyesque sites today, my interesting for EA’s upcoming Bloom Blox on the Wii is definitely piqued.

I’m always on the lookout for games that I can play, not just to play and beat, but those that I can come back to time after time and still have some fun, new experiences every go round.

I think EA has officially created that game in Boom Blox.

Essentially, the game is a virtual “building block” environment, where each level presents a set of “blox” that the player has to knock down by throwing a ball (or other random throwable things) at these “blox”.  To avoid any confusion, how about an official description as well.

Fun for kids and the entire family, BOOM BLOX offers action-packed interactive activities that takes Wii play to a new level of creativity and fun with single player, co-op, and versus gameplay. Players can explore the visceral gameplay that keeps them destroying their way through brain-twisting challenges. They can interact with entertaining characters such as the Blox-laying chickens or the baseball-throwing monkeys, who bring personality to the Tiki, Medieval, Frontier, and Haunted themed environments. Additionally, players can remix any level of the game in Create Mode using props, blocks, or characters that have been unlocked during the game. Players can also virtually build anything they can dream up. Plus, their designs can then be shared with friends or used to challenge others to solve their newly created puzzle via WiiConnect24.

Here are a couple links that have official hands-on impressions, since I’m not important enough (YET!) to be invited to something as spectacular as the Nintendo Media Summit:
