Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites Winner Declared!

leave a comment »

I know this is about two days too late, but I just wanted to mention that Parvati ended up winning Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites on Sunday.

Honestly, I’m not quite sure how she pulled it off, because during the final tribal council she essentially seemed to be acting nonchalant, like she didn’t care whether she won or not….apparently it worked better than Amanda’s responses.

I didn’t ever notice any acting or extreme lies that she tried to pull in her comments, but after watching her cry when she had to vote either Cirie or Parvati out was pretty ridiculous, as evidenced by her grin and comment the following morning.

“I wouldn’t want to be here with any other person right now.”

Oh, what about Cirie?  That woman you had the so difficult time voting out last night?

That was annoying, but in the end I was rooting for her anyway.  I guess I didn’t realize she was the 2nd place finisher in Survivor: China also….

I’m already looking forward to picking up an HDTV to catch the next installment, Survivor: Gabon.  I still say they should have made the logo a little more colorful, though.

Weekend Musing: Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites Finale

leave a comment »

Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites has been another great season, but going into this finale on Sunday, I’m honestly not that excited to see any of the final 4 survivors win.

Natalie turned into an evil and conniving player during the final four episodes or so, after going the whole season without even speaking to the camera…..

Amanda has turned evil too, after pretending to be nice to Erik when he took her on the reward challenge, then returning to tribal council and basically tearing him apart for the second week in a row….

Cirie has been a mastermind from the beginning, somehow always managing to get her way….I think of the 4, she’s got the best shot at winning…but I won’t exactly jump for joy if it does happen…..
And Parvati, who thinks she apparently knows the game in and out, and was at one point called out for thinking she was in charge when she really wasn’t. And since when was she ever an all-star. I think she got voted out pretty early in her game, and even if she didn’t, she wasn’t playing the game like she is now…which is better, I suppose.

Either way, I think the main thing I’ll enjoy after seeing this Sunday’s finale is the preview for Survivor’s next installment, which, if sources are correct should be Survivor: Gabon. (Basically, Survivor: Africa 2)

Survivor Micronesia Musings

leave a comment »

You know, I’ve been expecting all along that Natalie would have some screen time in an episode, considering she’s hung around this long.

I just didn’t quite expect her to be as cocky and arrogant as she came off in tonight’s episode. She literally owned the episode…I think about 75% of those talking heads were hers, and what was with the expanded lead-in to tribal council with her STILL talking?!

She needs to go….with Cirie…..

The thing I don’t understand is why Amanda and James were all mopey, just hoping that Jason did what he ended up doing….If they had spoken with Jason, told him that Natalie was going to stab him in the back, and then talked to Erik, who is on the outs since it was Girls vs. Guys, that would have given them the numbers to flip it right back at Parvati, Natalie and Alexis.

Seriously…That makes sense, doesn’t it?

I thought these players were supposed to be All-Stars….

Survivor Returning to Africa?!

leave a comment »

I’ve always been a huge fan of Survivor: Africa from way back in the day….It had easily some of the best casting for any season that’s ever been produced, and despite a lot of people complaining it was not the best of seasons, I’ve always thought it shined as one of the best.

With that said, it’s a very exciting development to see that Africa is possibly being considered for the 17th season of Survivor, and also the first season to be shot entirely in HD.

The location is known as Gabon, and is in Western Africa….They had me at Africa….though, I am curious to see if it’s as desolate as Kenya was, or if it might be in a more wooded area.

Either way…I’m there. Bring on this season’s finale so we can see what the logo looks like. If it’s good enough, I might just have to get some new Survivor-themed gear.

Survivor goes High-Def

leave a comment »

I’m actually psyched to read this latest news…

I remember reading an article about a month ago wondering why Survivor on CBS hadn’t made the transition to HD.  Low and behold, here we are a month later, and it’s officially announced that the 17th edition of the show will be shot in HD.

Survivor has always been a beautiful show with a lot of stunning locales and awesome beauty shots….I think this might be just the catalyst for a lot of the shows fans to go out and upgrade to HD (if they haven’t already).

Survivor Micronesia Musings

with one comment

Just a couple musings from tonight’s episode, because they really stood out to me.

I think it’s becoming more and more clear how much we actually don’t see on a weekly basis during each episode of Survivor.   Here’s a couple things that brought this to my attention tonight:

1) Natalie (I think that’s her name…) has yet to do a confessional to the camera (at least that has aired), yet she’s managed to stick around this long.  How does that happen?  Does anyone else notice she never says anything?!  Either she’s playing really smart and staying under the radar, or apparently the producers feel she has nothing important to say.

2) Apparently Alexis and Ozzy got to know each other a lot better than has ever been shown when they were on Exile Island….She basically took the place of Amanda, and was hanging all over him…..Yet, since they’ve gone to Exile, not once had she ever said anything about Ozzy…they just showed them walking to their boat that ONE time…..Alexis also got a LOT of screen time and spoke much more than she ever has…..

The style of this season is just a little peculiar….not that I’m not enjoying it.

More Burnett-inspired news…

leave a comment »

I’m interested in Burnett’s other upcoming projects, On The Lot and Pirate Master (a reality competition with people who want to be pirates….crazy, summer reality fare).

On The Lot will premiere on FOX on Tuesday, May 22nd.  I’m looking forward to this one simply because of the teaming up with Steven Spielberg.  It should be a great look behind the scenes of how movies get made too…..Intriguing.   Here’s the official description to tide you over.

“From Mark Burnett, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, ON THE LOT affords aspiring filmmakers the         opportunity of a lifetime: a $1-million DreamWorks development deal. And, 12,000 people submitted their films for         consideration. ON THE LOT will feature filmmakers who will produce short films in every genre every week and the        viewers will vote on who gets eliminated. ”  (via the official homepage)

And the other, Pirate Master, will premiere on Thursday, May 31st.  It takes over for Survivor in the coveted “Thursday at 7” slot….I’m wondering if this one will sink or swim….but I’m willing to give it a shot.  Hopefully it doesn’t walk the plank too fast….(haha….ok, no more puns).   Here’s a description I found (courtesy Reality Mania).

“In Pirate Master: The Adventure Begins, 16 ordinary people living aboard a real pirate ship compete in an extraordinary Caribbean adventure in pursuit of hidden treasure – a bounty with a total value of one million dollars. Each week, one competitor is “set adrift” from the pirate ship that they have called home until only three remain in the hunt for the ultimate treasure of all. “

Summer TV may slightly improve over what I previously thought…We’ll see.

Where’s Survivor Headed Next? (UPDATE)

leave a comment »

I posted a few weeks back that Survivor was considering China as their next location…..

I think this is one of few times where I remember finding out where the next location is before they film it,  but I am glad to hear about the new location.  I think they can do a lot in China, and there’s probably a lot of history that we’ll hear about or see reflected in the show.

I’m thinking the logo for Survivor: China could look pretty cool…I wonder what’s up Mark Burnett’s sleeves for the next go-round….We’ll find out sometime next fall.

Jericho “One Man’s Terrorist”-Recap

with one comment

Not sure how many out there watch Jericho, but in an effort to gain more fans I’ll write up an episode recap. So, if you haven’t watched it and you have 15 hours of free time you could go here to catch up. CBS has put all the shows online to watch. Personally, I love when networks put the shows online. If only NBC would put The Office online, I would be a much happier person.

Anyways, back to Jericho.

The background info you should know:

  • Nuclear bombs have gone off throughout the US destroying a number of cities including Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington DC and the major California cities. Surprisingly, New York City was saved b/c they have gotten good at terrorist detection
  • The show takes place a town named Jericho in Kansas, mainly around the Green family. Each member of the Green family has their own storyline, but the main focus is on Jake (played by Skeet Ulrich)
    • Jake left town after some sketchy circumstances 5 years and return to town as the bombs went off. Needless to say he’s been in town ever since, which is a good thing since his knowledge and brawn has come in handily throughout the past 4 months.
  • Then there is Robert Hawkins. He’s evil but loves his family. We don’t know a whole lot about him (next weeks episode looks like it will reveille a lot). But we do know he was suppose to blow up Columbus and still has the nuke he was suppose to use and that the members of whatever group he was working for are being murder. He’s mysterious and bad news yet there is a part to him that is loving and that appeals to the viewers.
  • The town is self sufficient for most part, but is running out of food, gas and supplies. They have taken in some refugees but those people are putting a strain on the town’s supplies. Oh yeah, now its winter and if you ever been to NW Kansas in the winter, you know it can get cold, really cold.
  • And most importantly, outside of Jericho it is bad, really bad. Murder, theft, hunger and violence are all over. People are doing whatever they need to do to survive, even if it hurts or kills other people.

So, last night’s episode:

  • The major decided that the refugees needed to leave to in order to prolong the depleting resources.
  • This decision does not go over well with the refugees, especially Roger.
    • Roger is from Jericho but was out of town when the bombs went off. He and the others with him walked for 3 months to make it back to Jericho.
  • The major is only trying to do what is best for the town that he has sworn to protect, but I think we would all agree kicking people out of a save town into unsafe place in the middle of winter is a pretty bad thing to do.
    • On a side note, this is why I love the show. Life isn’t always black and white. There is so much gray in the choices we make and the people we become. Every week the show demonstrates this point
  • As a result, Roger shot the major accidentally, ended up saving “his people” but was banished from the town. The refugees are going to live in the homes of the Jericho residents who have returned after the bombs went off.
  • The other main storyline was about Hawkins. He’s trying to figure out who coming after him and sets up a meet with people who want to buy the nuke. He then gets photos of them.
  • At the end, one of the deputies figures out that Hawkins is bad. Like I already said, next week’s looks really really good!

So, I know the recap doesn’t make the show look that exciting. However, I would argue that so much of the greatness of the show is the interpersonal relationships between the characters, which can’t be seen in a recap. My fingers are crossed the show makes it to season two.

Survivor: Fiji – “An Evil Thought” Recap

leave a comment »

I’m really enjoying this season of Survivor so far, and I think it’s because they managed to get a decent crop of people this time around.

I thought it was an interesting reward challenge tonight, throwing fireballs at those targets.  They’ve definitely used the formula before, but those shots of the layer of cloth catching on fire and burning apart somehow looked cool to me.  I really wonder how long they were out there doing that.

Ravu finally managed to win a challenge, and got to hang out in an arcade.  At first, I remembered arcade is used for other things, besides videogames, so at first I thought it might be one of those rewards where they go to a small town and barter for their reward…but it turned out to be what I thought an arcade is supposed to.

I think the editing, plus a little alcohol from Rocky, clearly emphasized he was going to get the boot.  He was probably drunk, but still….don’t continue to make fun of people after they’ve shown they don’t like it.

Of course, they managed to lose another immunity.  Honestly, I think Lisi should have gotten voted out.  What’s up with her evil laugh…she’s done it twice now….She also had that little outburst about how not being picked for the tribe switch was her ticket home….seriously, I think she’s guaranteed she won’t be around to win the million.  She just needs to stop mentioning it, both in her confessionals and to the tribe, because it makes her look bad.

I think it’s classic that Yau Man hid that fake idol…It will be hilarious if it’s found and played by someone.  Genius…..

I think my pick to win, Earl, is still the frontrunner so far.  He and Yau may even end up in the Final 2…we’ll see how it plays out.
