The Mummy 3: Still no trailer?!

leave a comment »

The movie comes out in August, it’s nearly April and we still don’t have a teaser trailer….

The other night I saw a trailer for Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs….it doesn’t come out for ONE AND A HALF YEARS.

Get on the advertising bandwagon Universal…every time I tell someone there’s a new Mummy movie come out, they don’t believe me! (or they’re surprised…but glad to hear it, nonetheless)

Teaser Musings: The Mummy 3

leave a comment »

There’s finally some updates on The Mummy 3 out tonight, and honestly, I’m excited for what I’m reading.  I know there’s not many movie moguls out there that are dying to see a third Mummy movie, but I liked the first two a great deal.  I know Rob Cohen, who directed The Fast and the Furious, is not an ideal director for some, but I really enjoy those movies as well, and I’m eager to see what he can do with a much bigger, blockbuster kind of picture.  Here’s what he has to say…

“I have shown the film to the exec’s at Universal and they are through-the-roof ecstatic. We screened a few weeks ago for all the relevant department heads (home video, distribution, foreign, p.r., marketing, etc.) and the reaction was unanimous. It’s running around 1 hr. 53 minutes and, daily as we hone, it’s taking its final shape. The studio has been very collaborative and supportive. You know they love it when they ask you if you need any more money to enhance the visual effects budget!!! Are there more shots that I want to do but didn’t have the money to do?!!! Of course, the answer is yes; there is never enough to entertain the audience in any film. That kind of support from Chairmen Marc Shmuger and David Linde, President Donna Langley, and V.P.’s Jeff Kirschenbaum and Erik Baiers is rare in Hollywood so I am very pleased all the way around.”

Also, he’s apparently said in his blog that a teaser will appear soon…All I can say is….IT’S ABOUT TIME!  I read a possible description of what to expect, and if it’s right, it sounds like it won’t disappoint….

Additions to the cast of The Mummy 3

leave a comment »

I was wondering why The Mummy 3 was rising so high on HSX today, and I found out why after digging over at Variety.

Turns out Luke Ford, a relatively unknown Australian actor has been cast as the O’Connell’s son, Alex.  He was the young kid from the second one….which, I’m wondering if that kid would be old enough to reprise.  They say he tested against some other more established actors, but was the best choice.

The Mummy is returning again

with 8 comments

Looks like The Mummy 3 has been all but officially confirmed to be making a return to the big-screen.

Apparently, Brendan Fraser is going to get a massive deal out of it, and I supposed I’m OK with that, as long as it’s not crazy ridiculous. He’s a funny guy, and did good in the other two installments. However, they are not going to have Rachel Weisz back…apparently she’s dropped out of contract negotiations.

In my opinion it might be a little weird without Weisz, but Jet Li, who I thought was retiring from film all together, is going to take over for Arnold Vosloo as the baddie….

It’ll be interesting to see what Miles Millar and Alfred Gough can do with this one, considering their success with Smallville. I think this has potential, and I supposes I can go ahead and start my “Summer Blockbusters of 2008” list….

::EDIT::

So there’s more commetary up at FirstShowing.net…..The news of Weisz dropping out of Mummy 3 may confirm that she is headed towards being cast in Sin City 2….honestly, I think she could have gotten a better contract for Mummy, plus, it will probably make a lot more money. I’m disappointed that the author of the article at FirstShowing is saying they think the movie will be horrible and won’t cover it for awhile…At least give it a chance……seriously.
