Last night was the first full night of NEW television in quite some time, and to this point it hasn’t disappointed. Unfortunately, due to my schedule I have to catch shows a day or two after through Tivo or ::GASP:: VCR….but I managed to get in Heroes and Prison Break (second episode) this morning, and both were good TV.
Heroes was a minor letdown in it’s finale last May, but I felt like this premiere took the show in another good direction, with better potential than it’s breakout first season. I was glad to see David Anders on TV again (he was in Alias), though I’m probably not as big of a fan as some of those who have followed his career for much longer.
The episode mixed a lot of little humorous moments, but mainly spent it’s time getting us adjusted to the new situations our heroes are in…..I particularly enjoy the fact that NBC now has two shows that have a focus on the paper industry (I thought the fact HRG was in a copy shop was a little more akin to The Office and Dunder Mifflin, even though he was sort of at a paper factory last season.
I’m interested to see where the Honduras fugitives fit into the story. My Tivo was so dark, I couldn’t really see what the girl managed to do to all those guys she killed….I’m assuming we’ll discover her power later, unless I just didn’t see it the first time.
Moving on, Prison Break’s second episode continued to keep me entertained. I’m curious about Whistler, and I’m excited to see what Michael cooks up this time. His tactics to get the water flowing in the yard showed shades of Season 1 material, which is a VERY good thing. I hope they can keep this story up for the whole season, because it could turn out to be better than anyone expected it to be. I still really miss having Sarah around as a main character. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll actually show up in person at some point. I can have a little hope, can’t I?
If I get some time, I’ll get some official recaps written, but I can’t guarantee that. There’s so much TV and so little time to write about it, I might stick to little blurbs here and there.
I’m starting to think 20th Century Fox is dropping the ball when it comes to the standards they use with their movies. Well, at least the latest Die Hard entry.
Apparently they’ve prohibited the press from asking Bruce Willis or having him talk about any of the previous three Die Hard films. Honestly, it doesn’t make sense. What will they have to talk about if he can’t discuss the previous movies that lead to the latest sequel?
Honestly, the bar is really lowered for Live Free or Die Hard…first they get a PG-13 rating….now this…..I can only hope this one exceeds my expectations….I’m just a little worried.

Especially after this news.
It’s been officially confirmed that the latest entry, Live Free or Die Hard, is going to be rated PG-13….
Honestly, I’m glad that this lowers the bar a little bit, because now maybe I’ll be able to go in with low expectations and be blown away. I’ll keep my fingers crossed anyway. I’m still worried that they just can’t pull off a PG-13 Die Hard….
We’ll find out on June 29th!
So the big news tonight is the return of Heroes. After what’s seemed to be an eternity (well, 7 weeks anyway) we finally start the final chapter of Season 1…..
Drive-“No Turning Back”- You know, I still don’t easily recognize all the names of the racers yet, so I’ll stick to the description posted at Meevee. All I know is Tully has a sweet ride starting this week.
“Corinna is skeptical of an offer that may give her and Alex an advantage; Susan and Leigh weigh their options after Ivy’s actions; Wendy worries about her baby; Rob gets shocking news; and a driver is removed from the race.”
24-“12:00 a.m. – 1:00 a.m.”-At the end of last week, we were left watching Jack leave Doyle on the side of the highway as he went after Audrey….My gut is telling me that people over at CTU won’t be too happy about this….We’ll see. I’ve once again successfully avoided the previews…
Heroes-“.07%”- Sylar confronts Peter, and possibly others, in his continued rampage on all the people with abilities. Also, Nathan and Linderman will be discussing some decisions….Thompson is on the hunt for Claire…..and Hiro renews his vow to “save the world”….This is gonna be good!
This is the first time in weeks that both the Tivo and VCR will be fired up folks…..Get excited!
I’m interested in Burnett’s other upcoming projects, On The Lot and Pirate Master (a reality competition with people who want to be pirates….crazy, summer reality fare).
On The Lot will premiere on FOX on Tuesday, May 22nd. I’m looking forward to this one simply because of the teaming up with Steven Spielberg. It should be a great look behind the scenes of how movies get made too…..Intriguing. Here’s the official description to tide you over.
“From Mark Burnett, Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, ON THE LOT affords aspiring filmmakers the opportunity of a lifetime: a $1-million DreamWorks development deal. And, 12,000 people submitted their films for consideration. ON THE LOT will feature filmmakers who will produce short films in every genre every week and the viewers will vote on who gets eliminated. ” (via the official homepage)
And the other, Pirate Master, will premiere on Thursday, May 31st. It takes over for Survivor in the coveted “Thursday at 7” slot….I’m wondering if this one will sink or swim….but I’m willing to give it a shot. Hopefully it doesn’t walk the plank too fast….(haha….ok, no more puns). Here’s a description I found (courtesy Reality Mania).
“In Pirate Master: The Adventure Begins, 16 ordinary people living aboard a real pirate ship compete in an extraordinary Caribbean adventure in pursuit of hidden treasure – a bounty with a total value of one million dollars. Each week, one competitor is “set adrift” from the pirate ship that they have called home until only three remain in the hunt for the ultimate treasure of all. “
Summer TV may slightly improve over what I previously thought…We’ll see.
So I’m glad to have another addition to my TV schedule….Drive rocks!
Drive-“Let the Games Begin”– The preview yesterday went really fast, but I went ahead and took a look at the episode summary via Meevee.
“Legal trouble separates Alex from Corinna; John and Violet try to keep their participation a secret from loved ones; Wendy gets used to a new partner; and Winston attracts unwanted attention.”
I’m still getting all the names straight, but I think I remember seeing some sort of showdown between the military guy and the girl that was on the hitlist last night….I think….Either way, should be another great hour of television.
24-11:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m.- I stayed away from the preview last week because they always seem to reveal so much…but, they do tend to trick me a lot…..I’m guessing something happens when Jack tries to tell CTU he’s going after Audrey…..What is in store for this final set of episodes? They’ve definitely majorly switched over now that all the nukes have been found.
So did anyone else enjoy the ride tonight on Drive? I’m always hesitant going into a show that’s been so highly promoted. After the way The Nine started on ABC, with all those critics saying it was “the best thing on television”, I was wary that this was another situation like that.
….Man, was this so not that kind of show. After the first 5 minutes, I was totally into the show. It starts off with Tully (Nathan Fillon, who’s awesome in this role!) racing against another driver down a busy highway….Lots of action…..Anyway, the music coupled with the awesome racing/car chase stuff was spot-on awesome. I don’t think I’ve thought an old F-150 was a badass looking car, but they do a good job of pulling it off.
There’s a lot of twists and turns throughout the episode that kept me entertained….The show has the whole Lost dynamic, with the mysterious people behind the race (should we call them “The Others”?), but it moves along at a much faster pace… Most all the characters are entertaining as well….I never really connected with the housewives car….
And how cool is it to see the guy from American Graffiti ? He’s actually quite convincing, and I’m wondering what role he’s going to play in all this…clearly, he reports to someone above him…But who? One of the many questions left.
I won’t spoil the cliffhanger-ish ending they had, but man was it cool…..I’m looking forward to continuing this ride tomorrow night when Drive moves to it’s permanent timeslot at 8/7c, in the place of the recently departed Prison Break……
